Three Factors You Need to Finally Reach Your Goals
Reaching your goals isn’t always easy. It often won’t happen quickly especially if we want them to stick. I’ve been working as a personal trainer for 12 years now and I’ve been a close witness to what truly works when it comes to clients reaching their goals. I’m here today to help you reach your goals. I have personally helped clients throughout their wellness journeys and have done so in many different ways. What I mean by that is every journey, schedule, dietary interest, and personality is different. So in that case, a different plan is set in place for each individual but here is the thing, today I want to share with you the three factors my clients who had success at their wellness goals have in common with each other.
Vegan Personal Trainer With Some Tough Love
Let’s be real. You know when the jeans are getting a little tight, you don’t feel strong, and you may be carrying a little more weight that just doesn’t feel right. You are ready to jump back in and make a change. You are searching for the perfect routine, diet, trainer, or plan. There are a lot of different techniques and ways you can go about reaching your fitness goals but what you may be missing is…not what you think!
That said, I want to start off by putting some serious emphasis on how important your actions are to your fitness plan and to getting results.
There are a few important factors to differentiate and they are all important at different stages of your journey. Three of which you need to finally reach your goals. We are getting there. I promise!
Let’s Break it Down!
Motivation: the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.
Inspiration: the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.
Self-Discipline: the ability to control one’s feelings and overcome one’s weaknesses; the ability to pursue what one thinks is right despite temptations to abandon it.
Determination: firmness of purpose; resoluteness.
Consistency: always behaves in the same way, has the same attitudes towards things, or achieves the same level of success in something.
Motivation and inspiration are wonderful on their own. They probably got you thinking about those goals. Maybe a person you look up to inspired you and maybe you had the idea of feeling stronger and it inspired you. That’s all great but motivation and inspiration will come and go and it’s not going to be what propels you.
The Three Factors You Need to Finally Reach Your Goals. Drumroll, please…
Discipline, Determination, and last but not least Consistency.
Your determination to remember why you are on this journey. Apply that to your self-discipline and commit to a routine, and then show up consistently day in and day out to get results, and keeping the results is key!
Every client that I have worked with who was successful at reaching their wellness goals had these three factors on lockdown. They didn’t make excuses. They showed up for workouts with me or on their own. They focused on the positive and didn’t let anything stand in their way. You can do it too! I want you to decide now to reach your goals. No excuses.
To recap, if you were planning to skip that workout, that run, or that healthy dinner because you didn’t feel like it, this article was made for you. It’s go time. Life is too short to keep dreaming about these goals. Let’s make them happen.
Why Do I Have Trouble Trying to Reach My Goals?
I know it’s easy to blame something outside yourself but it’s most likely not your previous plan that failed, it was the fact that you failed to commit and continue. Was not having enough time an issue? Find a workout you can do from home to remove the commute or maybe skip the Netflix binge. Was it because you didn’t like the plan you were doing before? That’s normal, just find a new one you enjoy and will stick with. Was it because you didn’t like your trainer? Also ok, not every trainer is perfect for every person. Find the right trainer for you, one that you enjoy their style of training as well as one you won’t mind spending 1- 4 hours a week with!
Catch my drift.
The people that succeed don’t always feel like showing up but they do it anyway!
How to Implement the Factors When You Don’t Feel Like It
Ok coach, how do we stay disciplined, determined, and consistent, when we lose the inspiration or the motivation?
- Think about WHY you started. Write it down. Refer back to it when you need that reminder. Know you’ll be one day closer to the goal you envisioned during those low motivation and inspirational moments and rely more on your consistency. Be determined to reach the goals you have been aiming for time and time again, and be disciplined to show up.
- Focus on how you’ll feel after each action. For instance before a workout, instead of focusing on how challenging the workout is going to be focus on how good you’ll feel after it. On another note, if any negative thoughts about your healthy meal choices pop into your head, think about how much energy you’ll have after it, how good your digestion will be, and how much closer you’ll be to your goal. For any negative thought think of the positive outcome.
- Start envisioning yourself as that person who you are working towards. Start living like her or him. You are them already. Start walking the walk, talking the talk. No one but you can get you there and no one can take it from you! That is truly the most rewarding part, it is all yours!
Ok, tough love rant over! I truly wish you the best on your wellness journey and hope this was the little pep talk you were looking.
Peace and love!
