I think one of the biggest reasons people struggle to stick with their health and fitness plans is that they overcomplicate the process. I get it; our goals are so important and definitely worth the thought and attention. The problem is, if it’s a complicated plan, it can be really hard to stick with in the long run. Also, feeling like we have to do it perfectly can cause internal tension. We might feel like a failure if we mess up or miss a day.
This advice may not apply if you are wanting to be a bodybuilder or if you are trying to look like your favorite TikTok influencer. I’m talking about us normal humans who just want to be healthy and strong. I want my clients to live their lives as they wish, just incorporating a few healthy habits to help them thrive. If this sounds relatable, let’s check out my three ways to simplify your health and fitness lifestyle.

1. NEAT Movement (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis)
Move more in general + walking. Aim for 7,000-10,000 steps per day. Take breaks from your computer, do your own chores, park further away from entrances, take the long route, play, dance, enjoy!

2. Resistance Exercise
Find a resistance routine you like and can commit to 3-5 days per week. Don’t pick the most intense routine or one you dislike. Find one you’ll stick with and improve on. This is so important for your overall health. We live in a modern world that doesn’t require as much manual labor as our ancestors once had to endure. However, with that benefit, we aren’t benefiting our health in this regard.
If you need individual guidance consider the benefits of hiring a personal trainer.

3. Eat Within Your Means
Just like you would live within your financial means, we all have a caloric “means” as well. If you are gaining fat, you’re likely eating beyond your means. There are thousands of tools you can use online to figure out the calories for your individual body and activity levels. Try this calculator to figure out how many calories you need for your current weight and adjust from there.

I hope you see the change you seek by incorporating these tips to simplify your health and fitness.
XOXO,
Justine
