Justine’s Austin, TX Plant-based Restaurant Guide

austin, tx plant-based restaurant guide

These are my favorite Austin vegan and plant-based restaurants. The top three are my actual top three favorites. These locations range from fully vegan to vegan-friendly, but all offer delicious plant-based options that make them worth the trip. Follow the key below to find the perfect meal for you!

(V) 100% Vegan Establishment (VG) Vegetarian (with strong vegan options) (GF) Gluten-Free Friendly (OF) Oil-Free Options Available (WFPB) Whole Food Plant-Based (Minimal processing)(RAW) Non cooked

Justine’s Top Three

  • ATX Food Co. (East Austin) (V, GF, WFPB, OF) – Order the Power Bowl, tacos, and/or a sea moss-powered smoothie; you’re going to feel superhuman!
  • Casa De Luz (Downtown) (V, GF, WFPB, OF) – Just like ATX Food Co., you can trust you are eating real, whole foods. They offer a fixed menu made from seasonal ingredients.
  • Bouldin Creek Cafe (South Austin) (VG) – I love the breakfast plate: “noochy” scrambled tofu, steamed spinach, and fresh tomato. Add some sourdough bread and a soy latte!

Full Meals & Date Nights

  • Nori Sushi (North Austin)(V) – At this point, we’ve had almost everything on the menu and enjoyed every bite. This is our go-to date night spot!
  • Fabrik (Tarrytown)(V) – While I haven’t been yet, a close friend has visited three times for special occasions and loved it every time. It’s vegan fine dining—make a reservation right away!
  • The Well (Downtown)(GF) – This place is not fully vegan but has plenty of options clearly marked on the menu. The ambiance is incredible.

  • Blue Sushi Sake Grill (Domain)(VG) – They have a dedicated vegan menu that is surprisingly extensive.
  • Jupiter Supper Club (Downtown)(VG) – Great for dinner and entertainment. Be sure to make a reservation early!
  • Casa De Luz (East Side) (V, GF, WFPB, OF) – The same great food as the downtown location, just with a slightly different vibe.
  • Aba (South Congress)(VG) – Located on Music Lane, this place has one of the most beautiful multi-level outdoor patios in Austin. It’s Mediterranean and has clearly labeled vegan options like smoky garlic hummus and crushed fingerling potatoes.

Bowls & Health-Focused

  • Honest Mary’s (Arboreturm)(VG, GF) – I always “build my own bowl.” My go-to: half kale, half black rice, tofu, beets, mushrooms, herb mix, pickled onions, lime crema, and a seaweed and mushroom sipping broth.
  • Flower Child (Domain) (VG, GF) – I usually choose the Mother Earth bowl. Once you find something you like here, it’s hard to switch it up!
  • Conscious Kitchen (Bee Cave) (V, RAW, WFPB) – This is a new find! It features fully raw, creative dishes crafted by naturopathic doctors.
  • Soup Peddler (Multiple locations)(VG) – Multiple locations around the city for a nourishing snack. I highly recommend the Green Monster smoothie.
  • Conscious Cravings (Mueller)(V) – I love the chimichurri-flavored seitan over a quinoa salad. The portions are hefty! Add mushrooms for great flavor and texture.

Tacos, Burritos & Comfort Food

  • Vegan Yacht (South Austin)(V) – Voted the best vegan burrito in Austin! My last burrito here was unforgettable, but you can also order any option as a bowl if you prefer something lighter.
  • Nissi Vegan (North Loop) (V) – Incredible burritos, tacos, and the most delicious refried beans.
  • Vegan Nom (East Austin)(V) – Go for the Big Brunch Burrito!

  • Hippy Eats (Meuller)(V) – A gem located at the Mueller food truck park. The food is healthy, delicious, and cooked by a passionate vegan chef.
  • Mr. Naturals (East Austin)(VG) – Try the seitan fish tacos or one of the fruit-based bowls for a sweeter meal.

Burgers & Pizza

  • Next Level Burger (Downtown)(V) – Located inside the Lamar Whole Foods. You can’t go wrong with any of their burgers, shakes, and even hearty salads!
  • Nom Burgers (Downtown)(V)– I’ve actually not been to this burger spot yet. The algorithm found me on Insta and wanted to make sure you knew about it too!
  • Mission Burger Co. (South Lamar)(VG) – For “greasy goodness” burgers; also, try their Gardein Chick’n Caesar salad.
  • Lil’ Nonna’s (North Campus)(V) – An all-vegan pizza food truck outside of Tweedy’s Bar on the north end of campus.
  • Conan’s Pizza (Multiple locations)(VG) – A one-of-a-kind Austin OG with great vegan options.
  • Home Slice Pizza (Multiple locations)(VG) – An Austin staple that offers reliable vegan substitutions.
  • Arlo’s (East Austin)(V) – Usually found parked at bars like Cheer Up Charlies, this is the ultimate outdoor “vegan junk food” experience. Their Bac’n Cheeze Burger is legendary.

Coffee & Treats

  • Dear Diary Coffee (East Austin) (V) – A fully vegan coffee shop with plenty of savory and sweet treats.
  • Unicorniverse (Round Rock)(V) – A beautiful European-style bakery that is 100% plant-based. Their macarons and croissants are magical.
  • Gati (East Austin) (V, GF) – This is a must-add. It is a 100% gluten-free and vegan-friendly spot that serves incredible coconut milk ice cream, Thai-inspired breakfast and lunch, and a full coffee menu.
  • Capital City Bakery (East Austin) (V) – While primarily a bakery, they serve coffee and are an Austin staple for 100% vegan treats like kolaches, cupcakes, and seasonal “pop-tarts.”
  • JuiceLand (Multiple Locations)(V) – With locations all over the city, it’s the go-to for smoothies and wellness shots. Most of their menu is vegan (just watch for honey in a few items).
